HARRISBURG – In an effort to search for viable ways to recycle the growing amounts of waste from the slate industry in Pennsylvania, Rep. Julie Harhart (R-Northampton/Lehigh) introduced and the House overwhelmingly passed legislation that would request PennDOT to conduct a study on the possibility of slate waste being used in highway construction projects.

HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives this week approved legislation that provides affected local governments with the ability to place impact fees on the state’s natural gas industry, announced Rep. Julie Harhart (R-Lehigh/Northampton). House Bill 1950 would also create uniformity across the state in regard to regulations and oversight of the industry in order to protect the environment.

WHAT: State Reps. Marcia Hahn (R-Northampton) and Julie Harhart (R-Lehigh/Northampton) will host a town hall meeting to provide the latest information on the debate over school property taxes. The members will be presenting a Power Point presentation which shows the history of the issue, as well as updating constituents on the challenges facing the state Legislature in attempting to reduce or eliminate school property taxes. A question and answer session will follow.

HARRISBURG – Rep. Julie Harhart (R-Lehigh/Northampton) today provided an update on the State Route 873 bridge project in Washington Township, Lehigh County. Harhart said PennDOT has pushed back the completion date from Aug. 31 to Sept. 30 due to a manufacturer’s delay in producing galvanized steel plates. The bridge carries traffic over the Lehigh River.

Just like many families, business and organizations, state government also is dealing with strained finances and mounting debt as a result of the struggling economy. In fact, the Commonwealth was facing a $4 billion structural deficit and has a total of $50.5 billion in liabilities due to outstanding debts, pension liabilities, unemployment compensation repayment and the payback of funding to an MCare account the previous governor raided. That is why the crafting of a multi-billion dollar state budget was such a challenge this year.
