Since 1994, when she was first elected to represent the 183rd Legislative District in Lehigh and Northampton counties, Julie Harhart has fought for citizens in all walks of life, emphasizing a legislative philosophy that is pro-business, pro-senior citizens and pro-children.
Her legislative leadership roles including serving as Majority Chairwoman of the House Professional Licensure Committee. She also serves as a member of the House Consumer Affairs Committee for the 2011-12 Legislative Session.
In an effort to further reforms in state government and streamline operational costs, Julie has taken the lead in authoring legislation to establish a commission to study the management of current government operations and make recommendations for cost-cutting measures.
An advocate for women’s health, Julie has authored legislation recognizing the need to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease and cervical cancer in women. As a strong supporter of education and children, she has developed legislation for the creation of a safe schools advisory committee and crises plans, as well as legislation for the investigation and treatment of child abuse through the use of child advocacy centers.
Julie was named a Taxpayer Hero by Citizens Against Higher Taxes and a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business in recognition of her strong pro-taxpayer position.
