Biography
Since being elected to serve the residents of the 183rd Legislative District in 1994, Julie Harhart has fought for constituents in all walks of life, emphasizing a legislative philosophy that is pro-business, pro-senior citizen and pro-children. She has been there for the citizens literally and figuratively with an excellent attendance record. Her many duties include Deputy Whip and Republican chairman of the House Local Government Committee. She also serves on the House Committee on Professional Licensure. Additionally, Harhart continues to be a member of the Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee, whose mission is to conduct continuing studies of air and water pollution laws and their enforcement and recommend needed changes to the General Assembly.

In recognition of the pro-taxpayer positions that she has brought to the General Assembly, Julie was named Taxpayer Hero by Citizens Against Higher Taxes, a statewide taxpayers advocacy group. She was also named Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business.

Through the years, Rep. Harhart has authored legislation that confronts excessive government spending. She has taken on the criminal element through bills that increase punishment of retail theft. She also increased penalties to those who attempt physical harm to teachers and caseworkers. Harhart introduced legislation, now Act 15, that supports historical country hotels by allowing the expansion of unused space for restaurant purposes to preserve the historic buildings so they can continue to do business.  As a proponent of child advocacy centers, Julie continues to fight for funding in support of the battle to prevent child abuse.

Harhart has also been an advocate for women's health by sponsoring legislation recognizing the need to confront the threat of cervical cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Julie and her husband, Frank, reside in North Catasauqua.
